Dates for sønderjysk kaffebord
Did you know?…
The tradition of “Sønderjysk kaffebord” started in the 1870s and became a “noble brand” for this part of Denmark in the period up to 1920. During this period, South Jutland was German territory, and there were limited opportunities to gather and be “Danish”. It was forbidden for the South Jutlanders to gather where alcohol was served, because in the opinion of the Prussians was that it loosened the Danish-minded tongue band of the South Jutlanders. On the other hand, the South Jutlanders had to gather well for coffee and cake, and in this way the “South Jutland coffee table” arose. It quickly developed into a sumptuous cake orgy because the country wives wanted to outdo each other in baked goods
